Mr. M. Thurul Waranakula
 

Sri Lankan inventor, Scientist, environmentalist, and ecotourism expert. He graduated as a scientist with honors at the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka and carried out graduate studies in the fields of Chemistry.Thurul Underwent Post Graduate training on Civil & Environmental Engineering Research study, leading to Ph.D. degree during the period 1991-1996, at Department of water engineering of School of Civil & Environmental Engineering, University of New South Wales , Australia ,. However, Thurul was not keen to submit the thesis for his doctorate.
 
He is currently a Technical consultant for Environment management solutions and run his own company.
 
Previously Thurul was a Biochemist at Rubber Research Institiute, Sri Lanka (1988-2003). In this position, he was engaged on environmental management research. Several new technologies developed under this research study have commercially implemented drawing low cost appropriate solutions to the effluent treatment and disposal problem of Sri Lanka rubber industry. Under this a number of food/ food-chain related sub projects were also done. Namely, (1)Concentrated liquid fertilizer out of waste. , (2) Growing of biomass in Fix-film and harvest for animal feed. (3) Captive Maggot culture in rubber waste mixed media for harvesting as an animal feed and the residue as compost organic fertilizer. (4) Use of rubber waste as composting enhancer and rock phosphate mobilizing agent.
 
 
Medals and Awards
 
In 1995: Gold Medal in appreciation of outstanding scientific achievements for the benefit of Rubber industry.
 
In 1998, Presidential merit award for the new invention on biological waste water treatment.
